The sobrasada of Mallorca is related to the black pig, which has been native to the island since time immemorial. It has ears that hang down over its snout. Its diet, apart from acorns, also includes figs and other fruits.

Therefore, it is neither the same species nor does it have the same diet as the acorn-fed Iberian pig.

Furthermore, as it is an island where humidity is high, they do not make hams or shoulders. Everything goes into the sobrasada. Therefore, unlike the Iberian pork sobrasadas, the Mallorcan one contains thighs and shoulders.
